Dancing the Siguiriya - Federico Garcia Lorca
Among black butterflies
a dusky girl walks
with a white snake
of mist.
Earth of light,
sky of earth.
She goes chained to the tremor
of a rhythm that never arrives;
she has a heart of silver,
in her right hand a dagger.
Where's that headless rhythm
leading you, Siguiriya,
What moon will gather in your
lime and oleander pain?
Earth of light,
sky of earth.
After Passing
The children gaze
at a distant point.
Lamps go out.
Some blind girls
question the moon
and spirals of sorrow
rise through the air.
The mountains gaze
at a distant point.
And Then
The labyrinths
formed by time
dissolve.
(Only the desert
remains.)
The heart
fountain of desire
dissolves.
(Only the desert
remains.)
The illusion of dawn
and kisses
dissolve.
Only the desert
remains.
Undulating desert.
